Five Changes to Make for Autumn…

1 - Avoid Cold Foods

TCM always advocates eating seasonally, so just as a fresh salad in Summer seems so inviting, remember that as the temperature of our environment drops, we should match our foods. Focus instead on cooked + seasonal vegetables, If you can’t live without a salad, try leaving it out of the fridge for 20 minutes before eating so the temperature isn’t as harsh on your digestive system

2 - Drink Warm Drinks

Similar to avoiding cold foods, ice is not your friend in the colder seasons! Drinking water at room temperature will be less of a cold shock to your system - and try herbal teas throughout the day to keep up your fluid levels.

3 - Boost Your Immunity

Immune system boosters - to help avoid seasonal cold and flu. Ginger, Lemon, Cayenne Pepper, Turmeric, Organic Honey - all great to support your immune system (see my video on super spicy homemade ginger shots for some inspo

4 - Start to Wrap Up

Wrap Up + Dress for the weather. Think of the old wives tale of avoiding wet hair when it is cold outside + wearing scarves in the wind. This will help to protect against the environment outside getting ‘in’ to your internal environment

5 - Letting Go

Autumn is an important season in The Five Element theory of acupuncture and is often associated with ‘letting go’ - think of the trees shedding their leaves and transitioning into the preparation for winter. What do you need to let go of in your life in order to better serve you?
