Acupuncture is a Traditional Chinese Medicine, dating back over 2,000 years. It focuses on treating the root cause of the health imbalance whilst also addressing the current symptoms.

Acupuncture can be used to treat a wide range of physical and emotional conditions by boosting energy, supporting the immune system, calming the nervous system.

Five Element acupuncture focuses more on the spiritual and emotional aspect of a person, bringing any imbalanced emotions back into equilibrium. Aida Acupuncture uses an integrated approach to treatment, both from a TCM approach and also Five Element.

During a treatment, ultrafine sterile needles are inserted painlessly into specific points, aiming to bring the energy of the body (Qi) back into balance and restore health.

What Can Acupuncture Treat?

What does treatment involve?

Your first appointment will include a detailed consultation before any treatment to understand what will work best for you - please allow 1.5 hours for your initial appointment.

Diagnosis techniques include looking at your tongue and taking your pulse (on your wrists), and perhaps some palpation if your complaint is a physical one.

Following sessions will be more treatment-focussed so we can make the most of the appointment-use sterile needles, these are super fine and are inserted into the skin at specific points around the body.

You do not have to do anything, just lay back and relax and enjoy your treatment.

Other treatments that could be included in sessions are ear seeds, cupping, gua sha and moxa (see more info below):

Other Treatment Methods:

Gua Sha

Derived from the Mandarin term "gua" (to scrape) and "sha" (reddish skin rash), this practice involves gently scraping the skin's surface.

Through this process, gua sha is believed to alleviate energy blockages, stimulate circulation, and promote the body's natural healing response, releasing stagnant energy and toxins from the deeper layers of the body.

Moxa

This ancient technique, known as moxibustion, involves burning moxa near or on specific acupuncture points, promoting circulation, relieving pain, strengthening the immune system, and restoring balance within the body.

Its ability to warm and invigorate contributes to the overall effectiveness of acupuncture treatments.

Cupping

Cupping is a traditional Chinese therapy that involves placing suction cups on specific areas of the body. This technique stimulates blood flow, releases muscle tension, and promotes healing.

By creating a vacuum effect, cupping helps to remove toxins, alleviate pain, and restore the body's natural balance.
